We recently decided that our time, patience and money for remodeling had all run out. Unfortunately, that meant living with this nightmare of a bathroom...

There was a standard, old, boring mirror on the wall...cracked, and covered in half removed stickers. You can actually still see the outline - I guess I need to stain that wall now. Anyway, the mirror is on loan from my mom who bought it to put in her antique store. I found the little white shelf in the garage at our old house. I think my MIL left it there? You can barely see it, but there is a little glass ring holder on the shelf. I found that at Goodwill earlier this year for $0.99.
The only real problem I ran into was finding a shower curtain. It's just one of those things - like socks or underwear - that you don't really want to buy used. I looked at several thrift stores and didn't find any that were still in the package, so I ended up getting this one from Target with a gift card I'd been saving. I really love it and I already had the perfect robin's egg blue towels to match.

And my MIL bought me a box of these antique mason jars for $1 at a yard sale a few months back. Perfect for little odds and ends!

I still need to make a curtain for that window. Our neighbors are up on the side of the mountain and probably too far away to see much, but to be on the safe side... A few years ago I had a pretty white shower curtain that I washed and shrunk (D'oh!). It's next incarnation will be as curtains for this bathroom.
So there you have it. What's old is new again. I spent about $3.00 total on scrap booking paper for this bathroom renovation (unless you count the $20 gift card used for the shower curtain) and I smile every time I go in there. (And not just because it's the only peace and quiet I get in a day!)

Wow! You did a great job remodeling for only $3! My own bathroom needs a makeover, but I'm afraid it's going to involve spending some money on paint and towels. I've been searching Craigslist for a new (to me)bathroom vanity. I can live with the 1950s turquoise tile on the walls (in fact, I kind of like it), but the faux blue marble countertop on the vanity is just too much.
Your post is very inspiring!
I think I'm in love. With a vanity. Because seriously? It's totally what I would go for if I had a willing husband and an ugly vanity to cover up. Actually, now that I look at my vanity again..... it's ain't so pretty. I think I might have to pitch the idea to him afterall. You're definitely inspiring me!
Wow. Definitely inspiring! I really like the mirrors and mason jars. BTW www.re-nest.com posted today asking about uses for jars just like yours around the house, you should totally send them this post! Green re-mod plus mason jar usage!
I am lazy today (pickling issues) so here goes the entire link to the aforementioned post:

What a beautiful makeover! It's nice to know that with a little creativity, the stuff lurking in our basements/attics can actually be useful. Thanks for enriching our Thrifty Green Thursday this week!
I'm so with you on wanting to have a pretty space to live in while still keeping it as green as possible. It's not always an easy task, because sometimes it takes a little more time and thought about how to reuse/repurpose/find something that fits your perameters. I think you did a great job. If you have a Habitat for Humanity store near you, you can donate your old fixtures, vanity, tub, etc. when it comes time to do the gut and remodel. I've found some useful stuff there for my DIY projects too. Mostly for small projects, like paint for a small laundry room but every little bit helps when you're trying to cut down on shipping stuff off to landfill!
